Cat

All cats, from large jungle cats to small house cats, belong to the cat family, Felidae, order Carnivora. This article discuss about the domestic cat, Felis cetus, a species indigenous to the Old World that includes such relates forms as the European Wildcat, F. catus sylvetris, the African Wildcat, F. catus lybica, and perhaps some other distinct groups. The domestic cat is apparently not a separate species; there is evidence of hybridization and interfertility between it and the wild races.

Cat History

The domestic cat has evolve as an urban scavenger and may have originated about 8000 BC, when nomadic human settled into village life. From archaeological and anatomical evidence, however, it is impossible to distinguish wild from domestic types until New Kingdom times (1570-1085 BC) in Egypt. The cat was then bred by a religious cult and worship as a sacred animal, but this episode of cultism has perhaps been exaggerated; it was not critical in bringing about the domestication of the species. The Egyptians domesticated many species, and the cat may simply have been bred to protect granaries from rodents. Because cat mummies are so numerous, in fact, it has been killed for votive offering.

The spread of domestic cats appears to have followed the pattern of progressive urbanization. Domestic cats now inhabit every continent except Antarctica and most of the world's oceanic islands. Cats have reverted to a wild state in many habitats where they were not originally found.

The Cat as Scavenger

Apart from a decrease in body size, the most notable anatomical contrast between domesticated and wild cats is the increased intestinal length in the former. This may correlate with the domesticated cat's turning from chiefly predatory to chiefly scavenging habits, and the resulting reliance on a low-protein diet; theoretically; increased small-intestinal length would maximize absorption of amino acids. One study of the stomach contents of stray city cats revealed that only 3 percent of their diet comprised rodents; the balance was garbage. Many studies have been devoted to the question of the depredations of cats on birds. Cats would seem to have only a modest effect, and generalization are risky.

Breeding Habits

The breeding cycle is controlled by sensitivity to light. At equatorial latitude, cats may breed throughout the year and have three or four litters. In temperature latitudes, they normally have one litter in the early spring and another in late summer. Domestic cats living under artificial light may breed at any time. Reproductive life begins at 7 ½ months and continues until advantage age 15 years or more. The gestation period is usually 63 days, and the average litter is four kittens.

Thorny Devil Lizard

Amazing Lizard form Australian desert.

Slowly move their right back foot then put into the disc contains of water. This is a Thorny Lizard, act seem not as dangerous as seen, even their body fully of keen thorn, the length of this lizard estimate until man shoulder high just 2 cm less. This lizard look so sweet to the cruel environment, that dwelt by most noxious snake in the world include inland taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) which can kill one hundred people by 30 gram poison and also desert death adder (Acanthophis pyrrhus), what its name have depicted its buttonhole.

The environment of that desert is very cruel, where the wind fizzing among the mulga trees (Acacia aneura) that feel like puff of hair dryer with maximum setting. In here in the desert field, in the dried part of the dried world that live by human, we must know exactly of water position to get next drink water. After 30 second their foot put into the disc their back the wet, water from the disc have diffused through their foot up to the body, and a few second water have come up into their mouth, the lizard taste by the tongue. Basically this lizard drink by their foots. This lizard can accumulate water from the damp sand, an excellent ability of desert dweller.

The skin more hydrophobic that you ever think, this may any hide capillary pipe in their foots that can flowing water to the mouth. Thorny Devil lizard from the dry Australian desert show the magic ability by sipping water up to the mouth through by aqueduct among the scales. The scientist hope able to imitate the lizard mechanism to develop technology to accumulate water from dry area.

Tarantula

A tarantula is a hairy long-legged, long lived spider foung mostly in warm regions. Also sometimes known as bird spiders or monkey spiders. true tarantulas make up the family theraphosidae; related forms, including tunnel web spiders and Trap Door Spiders, are also sometimes grouped as tarantulas. Many species are about 2.5 to 7.5 cm (1 to 3 in) long, with a 13 cm (5 in) legspan, but some South American species are larger. Tarantulas inject a paralyzing venom into prey with their large fangs. They rarely bite humans, however, and although the bite is painful the venom is usually not seriously harmful to humans.

Aphonopelma chalcodes is a member of the genus of tarantulas of North America. This spider's bite is painful but not generous to humans, and tarantulas can be trained as pets.

Tapir

The tapir looks a pig but is related to the rhinoceros and the horse. Four species make up the genus Tapirus, family Tapiridae. Tapir are 1.8 to 2.4 m (6 to 8 ft) long, stand about 1 m (40 in) high at the shoulder, and may weigh more than 270 kg (600 lb). The tapering and sloping face ends in a small, movable trunk. The eyes is rounded, the legs, and the tail stumpy. Each forefoot has four toes and each hind foot three. The Brazilian tapir, T. terrestris, range from Colombia and Venezuela to Brazil; Baird's tapir T. bairdi, from southerm Mexico to Equador; and the wooly Andean, or mountain, tapir, T. roulini, from Venezuela to Peru. These three species are reddish brown to black above, lighter below. The Asiatic, or Malayan tapir, T. indicus, is black on the front half and legs and white on the back and sides. Tapirs move quickly in open or jungle habitat and are good swimmers. They feed on almost any plant and also raid farm crops.

Mamba Snake

UK Student Killed by Mamba Snake, they bite in South Africa.

The body of a young British wildlife enthusiast, who would have celebrated his 29th birthday today, was flown back to London last night after he was bitten by a deadly black mamba snake in South Africa.

Nathan Layton was taking part in a year-long training programme to fulfil his dream of becoming a game ranger when he was bitten by the snake, Africa’s most deadly, at a safari college on the edge of the Kruger game reserve.

Mr Layton was walking in the grounds of the South African Wildlife Campus in Hoedspruit with teachers and other students taking a safari field-guide course organised by the nature group Bushwise when the attack happened.

A British wildlife student has died after being bitten by a snake in South Africa.
Nathan Layton, 27, was walking in long grass with a group of fellow students and teachers when the black mamba struck.

He was comatose almost immediately and died moments later as his girlfriend, 23-year-old Laura Woolley, looked on in horror.

Mamba Snake.

The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is a highly aggressive and venomous elapid snake. It is the largest venomous snake in Africa and the second largest venomous snake in the world. Only the King Cobra is larger. Adult black mambas have an average length of 2.5 meters (8.2 ft) and a maximum length of 4.5 meters (14 ft). The black mamba receives its name from the black coloration inside of its mouth, rather than their skin color which is a gray to olive tone. The black mamba is reputed to be the fastest moving snake in the world, and has been claimed to move at up to 20 km/h (12.5 mph), but these claims are based on studies of dubious accuracy.

A single bite from a Black Mamba may inject enough venom to kill from 20-40 grown men, easily killing one unless the appropriate anti-venom is administered in time. When cornered, they will readily attack. When in the striking position, the mamba flattens its neck, hisses very loudly and displays its inky black mouth and deadly fangs. It can rear up around one-third of its body from the ground which allows it to reach heights of approximately four feet (1.21 meters). When warding off a threat, the black mamba usually delivers multiple strikes, injecting its potent neuro- and cardiotoxin with each strike, often attacking the body or head, unlike most other snakes.
